1938 Born in Akita Ken, Japan
Aged 18 Akita Ken Junior Open Champion.

Attended the Nihon University studying Law

Aged 20 2nd Dan Kodokan Student Championship Finalist

Graded to 3rd Dan in Kodokan Batsugun Contest, which is a "Winner stays on" line-up, where anyone who beats five or more of their own grade goes up one grade higher

Aged 21 3rd Dan Kodokan Championship - Finalist
Aged 22 Fought in the All Japan University Championships and lost on decision against All Japan Champion, Mr INOKUMA after two extensions of time and a contest lasting 30 minutes. In 1961 and 1962 entered the All Japan Championships
Aged 23 Appointed as the Sindai Police Instructor. Won the Gold Medal in the N.E. Japan Championships. Awarded 5th Dan
Aged 24 In 1962 came to Manchester, England to teach at the Kitanishikwan ( KNK ) Judo Club on a three-year contract with the BJA.

1983 Appointed BJA National Squad Technical Coach
1985 Sensei was awarded Kodokan 7th Dan
1991 BJC Technical Advisor
1994 BJC Chief Examiner
1995 BJA Black Belt Association Honorary Member
2003 Promoted to Kodokan 8th Dan
During the years Sensei Hosaka has spent in England, he has trained and influenced many of the top Jodoka of this country, mainly within the BJA. He has been the official Coach for the Royal Navy when the Navy won the inter-services judo competition.
He has an unequalled understanding and experience of British judo at the highest level of competition. He believes that the success of judo depends on the quality of coaching, especially at the very early stages when the basic fundamentals are so important. He likes to coach judo without limiting his teaching to any specific groups or organisations. He is prepared to coach any judo group and is available to be technical advisor when such advice is requested
